Plagiarism Policy
The International Journal of Advanced Sciences and Computing (IJASC) upholds the highest standards of academic integrity and strictly prohibits all forms of plagiarism. Ensuring the originality of submitted manuscripts is a fundamental aspect of the journal’s commitment to ethical publishing and scholarly excellence.
Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism is defined as the presentation of another person’s ideas, words, data, or creative work as one’s own, without proper acknowledgment. This includes—but is not limited to—copying text, figures, tables, code, or results from other sources without citation, as well as self-plagiarism, where an author reuses substantial portions of their own previously published work.
Forms of plagiarism include:
-
Direct Plagiarism: Copying text verbatim from another source without citation.
-
Mosaic Plagiarism: Mixing copied phrases with original content without proper credit.
-
Paraphrasing Plagiarism: Rewriting another author’s ideas without appropriate attribution.
-
Self-Plagiarism: Republishing or reusing one’s previously published work without disclosure.
-
Image or Data Plagiarism: Using figures, tables, or datasets from other works without permission or citation.
Plagiarism Detection
All manuscripts submitted to IJASC undergo a plagiarism screening process using trusted plagiarism detection software such as Turnitin, iThenticate, or equivalent tools.
-
The editorial office screens each manuscript before peer review.
-
A similarity index above 20% (excluding references and quotations) may result in revision or rejection, depending on the nature of the overlap.
-
Editors review the similarity report carefully to distinguish between acceptable similarity (e.g., standard terminology or cited material) and unethical copying.
Author Responsibilities
Authors are responsible for ensuring that:
-
The submitted manuscript is entirely original and properly cites all sources used.
-
All co-authors have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript.
-
Any previously published material, data, or figures are used with permission and proper citation.
-
Quotations and paraphrased sections are clearly attributed to the original source.
Failure to comply with these responsibilities constitutes a violation of the plagiarism policy.
Editorial Action on Detected Plagiarism
If plagiarism is detected at any stage (before or after publication), IJASC will take the following actions depending on the severity:
-
Minor Overlap (≤20%)
The manuscript will be returned to the authors for revision and proper citation. -
Moderate Plagiarism (21–40%)
The manuscript may be rejected and authors will be required to revise before resubmission. -
Severe Plagiarism (>40%)
The manuscript will be rejected outright, and the authors may be blacklisted from future submissions. The incident may also be reported to the authors’ institutions or relevant authorities.
If plagiarism is detected after publication, the article will be retracted and a public notice will be issued explaining the reason for retraction, following COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines.
Handling of Self-Plagiarism
Self-plagiarism is also strictly prohibited. Authors must not:
-
Submit work that has been published elsewhere in the same or similar form.
-
Divide one study into multiple papers (“salami slicing”) to increase publication count.
-
Reuse large portions of their previously published text without citation.
However, reusing limited portions (such as methodology or literature background) with proper citation may be acceptable.
Ethical Standards and Accountability
IJASC adheres to the ethical principles outlined by COPE and ICMJE (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors).
Any case of suspected plagiarism is handled objectively, with the opportunity for authors to respond to the findings.
Repeated or intentional plagiarism will lead to:
-
Immediate rejection or retraction of the article.
-
Notification of the authors’ affiliated institutions.
-
Permanent ban on future submissions to IJASC.
Conclusion
The International Journal of Advanced Sciences and Computing (IJASC) is dedicated to promoting originality, integrity, and transparency in scholarly publishing. Through rigorous plagiarism checks, ethical guidelines, and responsible authorship practices, IJASC ensures that all published research contributes authentically to the advancement of science and computing.
