Abstract

Pakistan faces significant challenges in solid waste management, with urban centers generating millions of tons of waste annually. Traditional methods have proven inadequate in addressing the increasing waste volumes and environmental concerns. This paper proposes an Internet of Things (IoT)-based Smart Waste Management System (SWMS) designed to enhance waste collection efficiency, promote recycling, and reduce environmental impact. The proposed system integrates smart bins equipped with ultrasonic sensors to monitor fill levels, a centralized cloud platform for data analysis, and an Android application to facilitate user engagement and real-time notifications. By leveraging IoT technologies, the system aims to optimize waste collection routes, minimize fuel consumption, and encourage responsible waste disposal behaviors among citizens. The implementation of this system has the potential to transform waste management practices in Pakistan, aligning with sustainable development goals and contributing to cleaner urban environments.
